On January 25th, 2025, 𝗙𝗬𝗖 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 released a special edition digipak CD of 𝗧𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀/Θλίψις 2021 self-titled debut EP. A dedication to the late 𝗠𝗶𝗸𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗶𝘀, the band states that the EP, “…𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘪𝘵! 𝘞𝘦 𝘕𝘐𝘟 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘭𝘥, 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦!
Meaning sadness, oppression, or affliction in Greek, Θλίψις contains a photograph of a mother mourning the death of her son (the worker 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗼𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘀), who was killed by the police of the 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗮𝘀 dictatorship during a workers’ movement in Thessaloniki in May of 1936. The image and the title sheds some light on the content of the three songs contained within. It also gives credence to the bands aspiration to be a voice for the voiceless, subjugated souls who have been disregarded, both historically and in the present. This is evidenced by the EP’s three tracks of raw, vociferous Black Metal.
The songs are cold and concise, with piercing vocals that penetrate deep into the listeners psyche. The riffs are catchy and melodic, while containing a modicum of simplicity. Moreover, the songs are tumultuous and chaotic, showcasing the fire and fury inherent in these incandescent souls for the atrocities committed against humanity.
In conclusion, if you like your Black Metal incensed and enlightening, be sure to check out 𝗧𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀/Θλίψις. I have a sneaking suspicion that you won’t be disappointed.

Fierce Black Metal from the Greek band Θλίψις/Thlipsis and their newest EP called ‘Servants Of Apathy’. An unrelenting and heavy record that has a nice raw edge to it with sick riffs and tremolos are being tossed around, all while the great drumming and ice-cold shrieks from an ancient entity pummel through it all. Love the melodies too, that spontaneously combust into this frenzy of ravaging Black Metal. Even the guitar solos are top-notch on here. Just an all-round stellar EP that’ll make you a fan of this band!

Featuring members of Isolert, Sørgelig , GRAB, and 𝗟𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀, Greek Black Metal band Θλίψις/Thlipsis have joined forces with 𝗙𝗬𝗖 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 for their upcoming EP, 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆, to be released tomorrow, January 25th, 2025.
Created in 2021 by 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘅 𝗔𝗿𝗴𝘂𝘀 (guitars/vocals), 𝗧𝘂𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝘀 (guitars/vocals), and 𝗡𝗗 (drums), 𝗧𝗵𝗹î𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀 (meaning sadness, oppression, or affliction), 𝗧𝗵𝗹î𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀 says that they “𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘔𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘯𝘺𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨“. The band were later solidified by bassist 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 on their first full-length album (𝗗𝗮𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲).
The bands bio states that their music “𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘪𝘮 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺, 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘶𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘳𝘦𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘭𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘶𝘱𝘵 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮.
A coup d’état, 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 gives the listener a feeling of pensive sadness, eating away at their enduring spirit, while the affliction of melancholia sinks its teeth into their very soul.
The band says that the album; “𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺. 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘦’𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘸𝘢𝘳, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘱𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴. 𝘈 𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘰-𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘴𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘯.”
This is a bleak, but very accurate description of the three tracks contained within 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆. As it weaves a tapestry of a blackened landscape that was once green, it bares the scars of men whose souls have become a futile shadow in the wake of hopelessness and despair. In utter nihilistic fashion, 𝗧𝗵𝗹î𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀 delivers an emotional and unrestrained set of songs full of rage and sorrow for a world lost to unabashed greed!

ABANDON ALL HOPE, YE WHO ENTER HERE
Shattered Hope — Memoir (2024 — FYC Records)
The above words are the inscription that Dante Alighieri uses to describe the gates of hell in his poem “The Divine Comedy”. It also describes the morose feeling that you get from the three tracks within “Memoir”, the forthcoming EP by Funeral Death/Doom Metal outfit, Shattered Hope!
It’s been three long years since I reviewed their album “Vespers” (2021). And in this case, it has felt like forever, as three years is much too long to wait for new music from these Doom titans.
Some people say that Funeral Doom is boring, as its tempo is typically slow, long, and is not very moshpit friendly. But great Funeral Doom is emotionally crushing, captivating, and at times remarkably beautiful, as the slow and oppressive is entwined with suspenseful, diaphanous, and graceful melodies.
“Memoir” is a prime example of all the aforementioned criteria. But, there is far more to this EP than any average Funeral Doom release has to offer. There is so much to unpack here. I have listened to and dissected the three specimens on “Memoir”, and I am still finding new and greater things that are held within.
Album opener, “In Waning My Days” begins with a beautiful, but haunting piano intro before kicking into what can only be explained as an ode to early Opeth meets modern “Paradise Lost” Death growls. The song is also riddled with melodic guitar harmonies, and a scant amount of tremolo picking. There are even some stirring clean vocals added in for good measure.
But, there was something else that I was hearing on “In Waning My Days” that I couldn’t quite grasp! That was not until the next track, “A Crevice of Painful Light” kicked in. It was then, that a light went on my mind… their hearts had become Blackened! Yes, my Metal fiends, Shattered Hope have incorporated elements of Black Metal into their sound, ala Carach Angren! And, how glorious does it sound!
With these two tracks alone, the band have taken me into a world where the hearts of mankind have hardened…. where men no longer have any honor… and they yield to their darkest desires, while subverting their capacity for reason, replacing it with hate and malice towards their fellow man. I ask you, can it get any heavier than that? I think not!
As the band have described it, this is most definitely a painful piece of art. But they’re not finished delivering the hurt just yet. Along with these two new Shattered Hope songs, the band have recorded a cover of Diafana Krina’s “Ble Himonas”. A band far removed from the trappings of Atmospheric Funeral Doom, and more akin to that of the Post-Punk Deathrock of So-Cal, the guys in Shattered Hope say that Diafana Krina have somehow shaped their musical direction. So, before I could give a fair assessment of the Doom outfit’s performance on this cover, I had to take a dive into the original version of “Ble Himonas”, as I was not familiar with this song or sadly, the band.
The verdict… the skeleton of the original version is still present, but Shattered Hope have taken the song into a different realm. The Gothic elements of the original shine through, while the core, depressive sound of SH takes center stage. My hats off to the guys in Shattered Hope, what an excellent cover.
As for Diafana Krina’s influence on the Doom Metal titans, I had to listen to both versions of the song a few times (starting with the original first) to find it, but you can definitely hear how they (DK) have helped to shape Shattered Hope!
In Conclusion; “Memoir” is a very depressive and beautifully crafted EP. There is so much more to this band than mere Funeral Doom. Never resting on their laurels, they are continuously growing and adding new ideas to their repertoire. Their willingness to experiment with their sound is just a small fraction of what makes their brand of Funeral Doom so exciting. And more people need to listen and know their name… say it with me… SHATTERED HOPE! — E.N. Wells

The ever busy, always creative Father Wrath (Dødsferd, Grab -Black Metal, Nadiwrath, Fucking Your Creation Records) began this drunken creation, Drunk Earth back in 2004. They released one three-track demo “Returnable Bottle” in 2006 via the Greece-based Fistbang Records.
The music on “Returnable Bottle” has been said to have an obvious Motörhead influence, and I can agree with that sentiment as far as the Lemmy style bass runs are concerned. But, what I hear when I listen to Drunk Earth are the nasty Crust Punk leanings of bands like Amebix, Anti-Cimex and Discharge, with a tinge of Black and Thrash Metal thrown in for good measure! And, I have to say, these songs greatly represent all three sub-genres, drunkenly brewed together as one.
This project was put on hiatus until 2009, when Wrath decided to reform the band with new members under the moniker, Drunk Motherfuckers. Before they released their first full-length album (…and Alcohol for All ), they recorded the song, “Ain’t Give no Shit About Sobers” for the compilation “Miss Fortune Was a Henhouse Manager”. Being a very Doom-laden track, it showed the fans another side of Wrath. Albeit, there are still hints of the aforementioned Crust Punk (in the music) and Black Metal (vocals) all throughout this one. Wrath also performs some fantastic, grungy Doom Metal vocals in the songs mid-section.
Now, you can get the legendary alcohol infused EP, “Returnable Bottle” by Drunk Earth and the Drunk Motherfuckers song “Ain’t give a Shit about Sobers”, newly remastered, all on this one split EP, “Returnable Sobers”.
As a bonus, the EP also includes an acoustic version of the Drunk Earth song, “Evil Mosquito”.

ɴᴀᴅɪᴡʀᴀᴛʜ — ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ ᴇᴛᴇʀɴᴀʟ (ᴄᴏᴍᴘɪʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ)
Greek Black Metal band Nadiwrath were formed by Dødsferd members Wrath and Nadir back in 2006 to, in their words; “spread Black Metal propaganda”. After a few line-up changes, a demo release, two full-length albums (“Nihilistic Stench” and “Circle of Pest”), several split albums, and an EP, the band ceased all activities in 2019…
Then, this past April, after 5 years of silence, Nadiwrath returned with the double compilation, “Death Eternal”. This compilation includes unreleased songs from the “Circle of Pest” era, and songs from their splits, EP and first demo.
The album begins with the unreleased track “The End of All Prophets”, which can only be described as pure, blistering Black Metal! The following track is another unreleased number, titled “Death Rattle”, which features some of vocalist Wrath’s Depressive Black Metal leanings. Next we have “Morbid Visions” (another unreleased track), which is yet another scorcher that offers up a glimpse of Nadiwrath’s Blackened Thrash Metal side.
“Surrounded by Leeches” is another number that also features Wrath’s signature Depressive Black Metal vocals, before jumping into some vicious traditional Black Metal retorts. This track first appeared on the split album “Death to Thy World” featuring Frostmoon Eclipse, The Last Knell, Nadiwrath, and Triumfall. The compilation also features covers of Deathspell Omega’s “Succubus of All Vices” and Inquisition’s “Crush the Jewish Prophet”. Both tracks are stellar renditions, and in all honesty, I find the latter to be a much better version than the original.
As I mentioned earlier, some of the songs on this compilation were originally released on the bands 2007 self-titled demo; “Horns”, “Winter Nights”, and “Eyes Full of Vengeance”, which were later included on their 2011 debut, “Nihilistic Stench” (along with the Dodsferd/Nadiwrath split, “Misanthropic Bonds”). These three tracks are not your stereotypical Black Metal, as they are songs that are more Punk infused Black/Thrash.
I could go on and on about “Death Eternal”, but I shall spare you from my incessant drivel, and conclude with this — as with all of his other musical endeavors, Wrath executes his vocals in Nadiwrath with a level of intensity and energy that are unrivaled. And, despite the fact that this is a compilation, there is a cohesiveness in the songwriting that pulls everything together as if it were all meant to be on one solid offering, raging with hate and aggression! In the end, this compilation succeeds where many have failed, by offering plenty of unfamiliar tracks along with a few of the bands more familiar offerings. I highly recommend that you add “Death Eternal” to your collection! — E.N. Wells

INsCissorS — ᴛʜᴇ ᴡᴏʀᴅʟᴇss ɢᴏᴅ ɪɪ (ᴀɴᴅ ᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴄɪɴᴇᴍᴀᴛɪᴄ ʀɪᴛᴜᴀʟs)
First of all, let begin by stating that I am particularly fond of film scores. Especially those connected to period pieces — the closer the music is related to the period, the better, ie; folk or tribal music of said period, with the proper instruments of the era. If this cannot be accomplished, then classical orchestration is my next preference for cinematic music.
Now, on with the show!!!
Many tracks on film scores are character specific or are titled as they refer to a particular scenes dialogue. When listening to these tracks, one can feel as if they are somehow being transported back in time to the theme of their favorite film. For me, this is greatly so in films based in ancient times, whether it be in Greece, Scandinavia, Ireland, Scotland, Rome, Asia, or even Egypt.
Sometimes, if I listen to a score from a certain battle scene, I can smell blood in the air or taste sweat dripping from my brow. Other times, if it’s a more enchanting or ethereal piece, I can feel a breeze in my hair or sunlight upon my face. A great score can encapsulate you and persuade you to feel a certain way. This much can also be said about iNsCissorS forthcoming studio album, “The Wordless God II (And Other Cinematic Rituals)”. From iNsCissorS mastermind, Vincent Andelmoth, “The Wordless God II” asks the question, “what if God had no speech or way to verbalize the creation of earth or humankind?” Andelmoth then asks, “Would there then, be no world to suffer the plight of humankind?”
With what Vincent Andelmoth describes as ethnic and ritual elements, and the ever impressive chants of vocalist Aima Lichtblau, iNsCissorS brings “The Wordless God II” to life! Even without a cinematic companion to accompany this album, the music alone inspires the imagination to create the imagery set forth by song. I can envision what an exciting conversation piece this would be, as we all have a different idea of how to conceptualize this tale.
So I encourage you, pre-order the cinematic experience called “The Wordless God II (And Other Cinematic Rituals)” and be delivered into an ineffable world beyond your mind’s eye! — E.N. Wells

www.transcending-the-mundane.com/archive (Wrath’s Interview on Issue 46, May 2024)
1. How are you today? What is something positive that’s happened for you recently?
I am doing great. More focused and determined to what I have to do, in order to fulfill my vision! Each day I am heading one step closer to it! I have to work harder and harder, but there is a saying, that goes like, “no pain, no gain”. My endless thirst for creation; creation without limits; without caring if others approve it or not, after more than 20 years of existence, is the most positive for me.
2. How do you feel about Wrath? Are you happy with how it came out?
I am very satisfied, because I managed to externalize all my rage, my hatred, my disgust against all these parasites that disappointingly rule this world. This album is another statement of my utter disapproval against this modern society and their filthy lust to destroy this planet’s divine nature, our peaceful animals, all proud people who suffer due to poverty…I am happy that I created an album, showing the incapability and parasitical behavior of the ones that consider themselves as the elite! My music’s purpose is not to entertain the brainless masses, but to make you think and redefine your existence.
3. You’ve always been one of my favorite black metal bands and you have some of the best song titles of all time- when people think about Dødsferd and your reputation and what you have built- what do you want them to think?
My music, my bands, my writings, my art is my legacy. I am also learning all these years! Knowledge is something that never stops! I use everything I know through my art, in order to make people think. No theories and no lame excuses. Nothing is easy. You must be in constant alert. People can think whatever they want. I just don’t want to be a mere bystander in this world.
4. Where do you feel Wrath fits in with your legacy? Do you feel this rank amongst your best work?
Every album of mine are like a diary of my life. As I am getting older, I am gathering more and more experiences which depicts on them. “Wrath” is my most mature album. I worked very hard and I cooperated with the most appropriate people; people that could understand the whole idea and the message I wanted to spread and I did it loud and clear.
5. How has your experience been with the various record labels you’ve released Dødsferd with?
I created FYC Records ‘cause I couldn’t stand some annoying and disrespectful things, each of the labels you mentioned have done, others more provocatively and others less. Nicolas and Hypnotic Dirge Records, is the exception. It’s the first time after 5 years that I am working with another label, along with mine. Nicolas is s decent man, sharing the same philosophy with me. He supports me and he pays attention very seriously to my needs as an artist. Really honored working with such devoted man!!!
6. What can you tell us about your label, Fucking Your Creation? I see you have a Nadiwrath compilation out this month? Any new releases planned for this year?
It’s more than a label! It’s a community of devoted artists who create uncompromising art against the preferences of the masses; a big family, that works together in order to change a lot of things, starting from the polluted culture of the underground scene! Nadiwrath are back and this compilation album,”Death Eternal”, with unreleased songs, was the greatest way for this return! Shattered Hope’s brand new EP, “Memoir”, InScissorS new album, Manos Six and the Muddy Devil new EP, the split album of Drunk Mfs with the Drunk Earth are some of the expected releases for 2024. And of course a lot of re-issues in tape format and unique merchandise!
7. Do you have any new music planned with Grab, Drunk Motherfuckers, or Nadiwrath?
Yes, we have! But we will start the recordings for each band/project in 2025. This year is dedicated to Gin Lane, my other project. I have the preproduction of the new album completed since last year but due to various obligations I had, especially with my book I couldn’t start the recordings. But finally this year I am hoping to complete the recordings in order to release it.
8. What types of emotions went through the creation of Wrath? Do you feel a sense of catharsis during the songwriting, recording, or listening phase of your music?
Total wrath and hatred upon the greedy parasites out there who have managed to turn this beautiful world into an endless graveyard!!! A wasteland, with brainless slaves, working just to feed the bellies of these pathetic leeches!!!! There is no justice; society has become a disease that infects everyone who becomes a member of it. The procedure of recordings, especially the recording of vocals, was totally soul destroying! All these violent emotions were externalized through my voice! Catharsis still hasn’t come, because the demons in my head never let me loose; it’s like a gift and a curse together!
9. What motivates you to keep writing extreme metal?
Human scums and their filthy existence!
10. What are some other passions or interests that you have?
Reading books and of course writing; spending a lot of time with my animals, hiking in the gorges and mountains of Crete with my dogs, gardening; working as a volunteer on animal shelters…Everything that isolates me from their society!!!
11. What are your personal and musical plans for this year?
Releasing some good albums through my label, working on my bands and projects, completing my second book of poems; I have also some live performances till the end of the year.
12. Final comments? Please add anything we missed. Thank you so much for your time!
Thank you very much for your time and support!!!
Just a reminder to all those who think that they can affect in a negative way my band, my label, or me as a person; I don’t expect to live through my music, or my label. I don’t expect to be a rock star. My vision is higher than where your mind can reach.

𝙰𝚕𝚋𝚞𝚖 𝚁𝚎𝚟𝚒𝚎𝚠 𝚋𝚢 𝙴.𝙽. 𝚆𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚜, 𝙰𝚙𝚛𝚒𝚕 𝟷𝟽, 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟺.
I have been on hiatus for a little over three months now! I have not felt the urge or desire to write about anything this past few months, but when 𝗪𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵 sent me the latest offering from his band 𝗗ø𝗱𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗱, I gave it a listen and I immediately felt compelled to write a review about said release!
After the release of 𝗗ø𝗱𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗱’s masterpiece, “𝗦𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗜𝗜” (2021), Wrath collaborated with 𝗺.𝗦𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗼𝗸 to create the mostly acoustic and atmospheric EP “𝗔𝘀𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘅𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀” (2023). This release featured the more anguished and depressive style of vocals from frontman 𝗪𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵, along with many spoken word passages. And, at that time I wondered, “is this the new direction we can expect from the band on future releases?”
Well, upon the album details and art reveal back in January of this year, 𝗗ø𝗱𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗱 founder and frontman 𝗪𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵 promised that the new album would be a no holds barred, uncompromising onslaught of raw black metal, filled with fury and passion… ….and I can proudly say that 𝗗ø𝗱𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗱’s aptly titled twelfth full-length studio album, “𝗪𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗛” is exactly what was promised.
Gone are the anguished cries from the bands previous few releases, as they are replaced by the rage fueled screams as heard on the band’s earlier releases like “𝗙𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻” (2007)! Many would wonder how a man like 𝗪𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵 can continue to be so creative, especially since he is active in so many projects outside of 𝗗ø𝗱𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗱. But, one just has to listen to the music or read the lyrics of the songs to understand what feeds his artistic direction and creativity. It’s his unending rage and hatred for the greed, corruption, and warfare which causes so much death, destruction and suffering! And, this unending rage results in searing, raw, black metal excellence! As it seems that these atrocities won’t end, I think we will continue to witness the magnificence of 𝗪𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵 and 𝗗ø𝗱𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗱 for quite some time!
𝗪𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵 (𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻) truly has pushed boundaries whilst on his artistic journey, but he has always kept true to the core element of black metal with 𝗗ø𝗱𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗱. The result is a formidable monolithic catalog of work, spanning over the bands twenty-plus-year run with all the aptitude and murkiness that comes from being an essential part of the underground. And, “𝗪𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗛” (the album) feels to me as if it were an effortless endeavor for an act that epitomizes the true definition of black metal! I know I have said this before, but I mean it when I say that this album has easily taken its place as my favorite 𝗗ø𝗱𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗱 release thus far!
𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 5 Rage Fueled Screams out of 5.

” The next song I’ve chosen is, in a word, really fucking intense. Okay, technically three words. The video that accompanies it is also intense, mainly because most of the footage shows harrowing real-world events in Greece, as well as the real-world performance of Dødsferd in Athens last May.
The riveting intensity of “Restoration of Justice” derives from multiple forces at work together — the fiery, dervish-like whirl of the riffing, the piston-like hammering and rampant blasting of the drums, the scalding ferocity of the vocals. But the electrifying whirl of the melody seamlessly shifts as the song moves, bringing in feelings of dismay and desperation, of sorrow and pain.
In both of these integrated phases, the music is thoroughly immersive, carrying the listener away into both defiant and dark moods, and more changes are to come, with further changes in the emotional timbre of the riffing and the pacing and patterns of the beats.
What doesn’t change is the wholly-consuming nature of the experience, and the unchained blood-spraying fury of the vocals. The riffing is dense yet clear, piercing like gales of fire and swarms of knives, and all of the elaborate melodic motifs have a way of getting stuck in the head as they trade places. And hell yes, the song is epic, as well as harrowing, haunting, and intensely memorable.
“Restoration of Justice” is from Dødsferd‘s upcoming 12th album, Wrath, set for co-release on May 10th by Hypnotic Dirge Records and FYC Records. As the band explain, it stands as “a vigorous indictment of the social and economic consequences of capitalism, political corruption, ecocide, and the largest argument against our civility – warfare.”
